Cyprus: Along the Green Line

Cyprus is a small divided nation in the Mediterranean. In July 1974, paranoid with the belief that U.S.-backed Greek Cypriot government might take over the small island nation, Turkey launched a preemptive invasion of northern Cyprus. Following a short war, Greek Cypriots fled to southern Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots fled to the north. A line was drawn and Cyprus became a divided nation. Today, multi-national U.N. peacekeepers monitor the divided line knows as “The Green Line.” The Greek Cypriot solders to the south and Turkish Cypriot solders to the north surround the peacekeepers. For this project, I was able to get access to, and photograph, the U.N. peacekeepers and Greek Cypriots along “The Green Line.”
